Marine on St Croix Planning Commission
as part of ENVISION MARINE
Fall, 1998
In October of 1998 the Marine on St Croix Planning Commission introduced and publicized the PICTURE MARINE project, led by commission member Laurie Schmidt, which was meant to inspire the citizens of Marine to become involved in a process of long range planning for the city of Marine. The commission provided 12 cameras to volunteer townspeople with an "assignment to photograph the aspects of Marine they value and want to see preserved into the new millennium and those things about Marine they would like to be changed, improved, or removed in the coming years. They were also to record positive and negative reactions to the things they photographed. The cameras were collected, the photos developed, the comments typed up. Then the photos and comments were grouped by subject matter and mounted for display first at the Town Hall and then at an all-Marine meeting on November 21, 1998. At that meeting the attendees discussed their visions of Marine for the future. |
